Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus)

Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus)

The moorhen is a skulking bird, moving around the margins of ponds, lakes and sluggish rivers. It is a very common species as it adapts easily to environments changed by humans. It does not dive but just up-ends searching for As it swims the head bobs back and forth. You can easily tell the difference with coots as the latter has a white front to the head whilst the moorhen has the red.
